Place

Capetown is the oldest city in South Africa. It was founded by the Dutch in 1652 and has an almost European atmosphere. Capetown has a young and lively art scene and a considerable number of art galleries.
Johannesburg, an ancient gold mining town, is actually cultural and economic centre of South Africa. Life in the city is characterized by rapid social and ecnomic developments, which is strongly reflected in contemporary art.

Remarks

One artist spends three months in Johannesburg and then three months in Capetown.
For this exchange, iaab cooperates with Pro Helvetia South Africa.

The studio

In Cape Town the studio is located in a studio complex in the city centre. The support is garantueed by blank projects in cooperation with Pro Helvetia.
In Johannesburg the live-in studio (300 m2) is located centrally in Doorfontein, at a 10 minutes walking distance from the Drill Hall, responsable for the support in cooperation with Pro Helevtia.
