INTERNATIONALES AUSTAUSCH- UND ATELIERPROGRAMM REGION BASEL
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE AND STUDIO PROGRAM BASEL

Three Modules - One Program
iaab started in 1986 with four studios as a traditional exchange program for artists. Since then, it has been growing regarding offer, quality and patrons. Thanks to its binational patrons the program is open to artists from the region of Basel and south Baden (Germany). Since 2009 also artists living in the Canton of Solothurn can apply for the program.
In 2004, iaab made one more step and became an exchange and studio program with three modules.

Exchange Program
On one hand, iaab offers the opportunity to spend several months abroad in one of our partner cities (Bejing, Buenos Aires, Cape Town/Johannesburg, Fremantle, Helsinki, Montréal, New Delhi, New York, Rotterdam and Tokio). On the other hand, foreign artists, who are generally selected by our partner organisations abroad, are accommodated in one of the seven iaab studios in the region of Basel.

Studio Program
Since 2005, iaab has been charged with the administration and awarding of the state-studios of the cantons Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft in Berlin and Paris.

Exploring Scholarship
iaab funds a non stationary stay abroad or a journey. The goal of this free scholarship is to make possible and support a concrete artistic project abroad.

New: Since 2012 iaab offers a travel grant for curators/art critics/art education staff in collaboration with Pro Helvetia and Kunstraum Klingental.

With its rich program, iaab gives important impulses to the region of Basel and South Baden and permits contacts between artists from different countries and cultures. It promotes an intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue about art and carries it forward. Against this background, the iaab intentionally fosters contacts with countries that have a non-western culture. The basis for exchange and dialogue is provided by partnerships with similar organisations abroad. These partnerships have been broadened and intensified over the years. Our exchange program reacts flexibly to changes in the production of art and on the art market, regularly embarking on new partnerships. The range of its widely dispersed exchange locations abroad consequently remains up-to-date and is continuously subject to new impulses.
