INTERNATIONALES AUSTAUSCH- UND ATELIERPROGRAMM REGION BASEL
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE AND STUDIO PROGRAM BASEL

What is iaab?
iaab is an international exchange and studio program which offers visual artists from Basel, Solothurn and the surrounding region the opportunity to spend a number of months working abroad. iaab has seven studios in the trinational region of Basel and currently arranges exchanges with ten partner organisations abroad. iaab also offers one way studios in Paris, Berlin and Leipzig, such as a travel scholarship. Applications can be submitted once a year. Participants are selected by a jury of experts.

Foreign artists, who are generally selected by our partner organisations abroad, are accommodated in the seven iaab studios in the Basel region, where they can live and work free of charge and where they are looked after by our iaab team.

Artists from the Basel region who are selected to participate in an exchange receive a grant from the iaab to cover their living expenses while they are abroad. Similarly, our partner organisations abroad pay the living costs of their artists during their stay in Basel.

iaab permits contacts between artists from different countries and cultures. It promotes an intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue about art and carries it forward. Against this background, the iaab intentionally fosters contacts with countries that have a non-western culture. The basis for exchange and dialogue is provided by partnerships with similar organisations abroad. These partnerships have been broadened and intensified over the years. Our exchange program reacts flexibly to changes in the production of art and on the art market, regularly embarking on new partnerships. The range of its widely dispersed exchange locations abroad consequently remains up-to-date and is continuously subject to new impulses.

Whenever possible, the iaab cooperates with other institutions and organisations in Switzerland such as Pro Helvetia, artists-in-residence, Kunsthalle Basel, Kunst Raum Riehen, Museum der Kulturen Basel and the Kaskadenkondensator.
